This tutorial will show you how to setup your email account in Apple Mail 13.x on macOS Catalina.

At the time of this writing, the latest macOS version is Catalina 10.15.3, please make sure your computer is updated to the latest version of macOS to ensure the screenshots below match.

Do not skip any steps in this tutorial. Following these instructions out of order or failing to finish each step will likely result in an error or incorrect setup. You must know your current email address and password to add your account to the native Mail app on your Mac.

Go ahead and launch your Mail app on your macOS Catalina. Then find and click Mail option and then Accounts. Now, select the account you want to remove and click the Remove button. Restart your macOS Catalina and relaunch the Mail app. Click on the Mail option, then click on Add Account, choose an account type and enter the account information.

Determine Your Mail Server Address
You will use the mail server address for both incoming mail server and outgoing mail server settings when adding your email account to Mail.

Step 1: Open a web browser on your computer and go to webmail.yourdomain.com (replace yourdomain.com with your actual domain name)
For example, if your email address is bob@xyzhealth.com, you would type in webmail.xyzhealth.com
Do not use a search box (from Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.) or include http:// or https:// when entering the URL into the browser's address bar.

  • Google account was initially synced with Mac mail app then suddenly stopped getting new mail from that google account. I deleted the google account from my Mac and tried to sign back on for the past month continuing to get the message 'authentication failed: Failed to authenticate with Google, please try again later.'
  • Nov 01, 2019 With macOS Catalina, Apple made a change to the layout in the Mail app. The classic layout has been updated and you no longer have that option within your Mail Preferences. However, you can change where you see the previews and whether or not you want to use a column layout.

Step 2: You will automatically be redirected to your mail server.
Your mail server address is the first portion of the URL.
In this example, the mail server address is: mail.enguard.com

Make sure you check for incompatible apps before you upgrade to macOS Catalina, because it no longer supports 32-bit apps!

Let’s take a look at the full list of 235 incompatible apps that the macOS Catalina installer has been programmed to look for.

Why Are These Apps Incompatible With macOS Catalina?

While many developers have transitioned their software to 64-bit versions over the years, there are still many 32-bit apps out there.

After all, not everyone is able or willing to upgrade to the latest version of any software. There are plenty of people who are happy to stick with the software they purchased years ago.

However, macOS Catalina is the first macOS operating system to drop all support for 32-bit apps, rendering all those apps incompatible.

There is no workaround – they will not work with macOS Catalina, period.

What If My App Is In The macOS Catalina Incompatible List?

If an app you are using is listed above, then it is a 32-bit app that will not work with macOS Catalina.

You have two options at this point :

a) if you want to use macOS Catalina – you will need to uninstall that app, and replace it with a 64-bit alternative

b) if you want to continue using the app – then you should NOT upgrade to macOS Catalina. Just stick to macOS Mojave or earlier, and you will do just fine.

Check Your Other Apps Before Upgrading To Catalina!

It would be wise not to just rely on the list of incompatible apps that macOS Catalina recognises, because it is just a partial list of all the 32-bit apps that are still being used worldwide.

You should identify the other 32-bit apps you need to upgrade or replace, before upgrading to macOS Catalina.

The Full List Of 235 Apps Incompatible With macOS Catalina

Hidden in the macOS Catalina’s installer code is a list of 235 apps that Apple has identified to be incompatible.

Please note that this is not an exhaustive list, and mainly covers popular software that Apple will highlight as incompatible during the upgrade process.
