  • I have just installed Yosemite and it now won't boot up. I just have a circle with a line through it on my screen. No idea how to resolve this! Any suggestions please.

    Hi veerta,
If you're having issue with booting, the following article covers most of the general boot issue troubleshooting:
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck

You may also want to see if OS X is showing as a bootable volume in Startup Manager, as outlined in this article:

  • Hello-
A colleague of mine has been using Photoshop CS2 forever. I finally convinced her to upgrade to a newer version, and we installed Photoshop CC on her Win 7 Pro desktop.
She is trying to print today, and jobs that would take no time at all in CS2 are taking exorbitant amounts of time when sent from CC. For example, we open a PSD in CS2 that is 15MB. We choose 'Print with preview' and then send 25 jobs to the printer. From hitting the button to the last item coming out of the printer, we're done in less than 2 minutes.
If we open the same file from CC and print, it's taking about 1 minute per copy, or about 25 minutes in total.
The problem seems to be with Photoshop sending the job to the printer, as we can see the jobs increment in the printer display at wildly different rates depending on which version we print from.
The same problem appears with pretty much any PSD or TIF. If we conver the file to PDF from CC and then print from a PDF application (not CC), print speeds fly again.
Any ideas on where I should start troubleshooting? (As an aside, the GPU on her computer isn't particularly good, but I would hope that the print engine doesn't require it.)
    Thank you in advance.

The problem seems to be with Photoshop sending the job to the printer..
The very first thing I would do is hit the website for the printer manufacturer and make sure you have the latest print drivers. Second thing is go to preferences and make sure Photoshop has enough RAM assigned and decent space on the scratch disk. Putting the scratch on an SSD or different drive helps a lot. But the RAM is the main thing. You didn't mention the PC/Mac or RAM, I would assume you have at least 16GB and at a very minimum, 8GB on that machine. Then allocate 75% of the RAM to Photoshop. Hope that helps!

  • Composed mail now sits in the outbox grinding away long before it finally sends. This issue has been duplicated both on my MB air and iMac desktop,
    Has anyone found a solution?

I had the same problem, plus new emails were coming into my inbox hours late.
I found the solution in different forum.
I did this and everything is working perfectly now.
    1. Quit Mail
    2. Move ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail to desktop
    3. Log out
    4. Log in
    5. Test Mail.app

  • blue screen, with lots of disk activity but won't wake without a hard restart. This is rough on the system (or will need to turn off sleep mode). Is there a fix for this that anyone knows of, or must we wait for an update? don't have the problem with my macbook air (2011) - thx

    Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article. That's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. Please read the whole article carefully (some of it is hidden by disclosure triangles) and don't skip any of the steps, including the ones under the heading 'Additional troubleshooting.' If you don't understand any of the steps, ask for guidance.
    Step 2
If you're running OS X 10.8.5 or earlier, from the menu bar select
     ▹ System Preferences.. ▹ Accessibility
If the checkbox at the bottom marked
    Enable access for assistive devices
is checked, uncheck it and test.
If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select
     ▹ System Preferences.. ▹ Security & Privacy ▹ Privacy ▹ Accessibility
If any applications are listed on the right and have a checked box next to them, uncheck all the boxes and test. You may first have to click the padlock icon in the lower left corner of the window and authenticate as an administrator to unlock the settings.
    Step 3
In the Energy Saver pane of System Preferences, uncheck the box marked
Put hard disks to sleep when possible
    Step 4
This and the next step must be taken as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that heading, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You may see one or more reports with a name that begins with 'Sleep Wake Failure' followed by a date. Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
    Step 5
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ Diagnostic and Usage Messages
In the search box in the window's toolbar, enter 'powerd' (without the quotes.)
You may see one or more lines like this:
    com.apple.message.signature: Platform Failure
If you do see that, and you did everything in the preceeding steps, then you're dealing with an internal hardware fault. Make a 'Genius' appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

  • insanely slow boot after installing 10.10.3, it takes 10times longer compare to 10.10.2, using MBA 2014

Open System Preferences, select Startup Disk, and make sure your internal drive is selected as the startup disk. Then click restart!
This worked for me, personally with the same issue.
    Good luck!

I am having problems with slowness, too - ever since installing the latest Yosemite update I downloaded a few days ago. EVERYTHING - Safari, QuickTime, MS Word for Apple, the DVD Player, everything - runs slowly and I get the 'rainbow pinwheel of frustration'. It's taken me three minutes to type these few sentences. It's really starting to frustrate me. Here is my EtreCheck report:
    Problem description:
Since I installed the latest Yosemite update (10.10.2), EVERYTHING runs slowly. I get the rainbow pinwheel whenever I click on anything on Safari, and have trouble typing via Safari; videos stop and start on QuickTime; MS Word for Apple runs slowly - EVERYTHING seems to be slowed down. It took four minutes to get the above sentences typed. Please help me escape the “rainbow pinwheel of failure”!

  • I am having a problem with very slow start up after expanding RAM on my 2009 Mac Pro (8 Core 2.93GHz). When I run the Mac Pro with 2 x 2Gb RAM it takes 4 seconds before the gray screen, chime and spinning wheel appear. However when I expand the RAM to 20GB the grey screen and chimes appear after a long 20+ second black screen.
    The RAM modules are paored 2 x 4GB Crucial CT51272BA1339.M18FMR and 6 x 2GB SAMSUNG M391B5673FH0-CH9, all DDR3 ECC.
Reading articles on the internet, I thought it may be damaged RAM modules, but I have completed memtest and all are okay. I have tried changing the pairs around and if I use any paired 2 modules the Mac Pro starts normally, only when I try running more than 2 modules the delayed start up happens. (black screen 20 Seconds)
I also have tried PRAM and SMU resets after changing the RAM setups, and the issues always occurs when I have more than 2 modules. As you can see I have 6 SAMSUNG modules and even with identical modules the issue happens, when increasing the RAM to more than 2 modules.
The Mac Pro runs fine after the start up screen and can see all the modules, but has anyone else come across this issue, or have any ideas as to why my Mac Pro is taking 20 seconds to start up with 20 GB RAM?

Mac app security preferences password. Hi there. Thanks for your comments.
I have tried all the different combinations of RAM setup, and as stated in my initial topic, the Mac Pro boot up time only slows when I have more that 2 modules. Where I place these does not seem to make a difference.
I have taken the Mac Pro to an Apple Reseller technician yesterday and they where not able to find any RAM errors. Apparently the boot up time is within Apple's acceptable parameters for this set up.
Could anyone that is running a Mac Pro 2009 with more that 4 modules of RAM, please let me know if the boot up time is normal. ( the time it takes from pressing the power button to seeing the gray screen around 16 - 20 seconds)
Or is anyone else having the same issues?
    thanks for your responce

  • A friend's 15' MacBook Pro, quad core i7,(older, not sure of the exact model) very slow to boot, and boots with the progress bar, then when you try to log in, it goes back to the login page. Often it will not start. Starts after resetting SMC. Reset PRAM. Booted to the recovery disk, ran repair disk on drive, no errors, tried to run repair on the volume and the MBP shut down. Tried booting to an external drive and it boots to an empty desktop with a finder window like an extended desktop.Tried AHT, only the usual battery sensor error, 4SNS/1/40000000 TB3T-128.000. ran extended test, same thing, only the one error.
So, how to back up this MB Pro before I try an erase and install. (short of removing the drive) It would seem to be a hardware error, but always want to try an erase and install. Any ideas or troubleshooting suggestions?

Mike -- thanks for your input. I guess Windows is just a worrisome thing for us Mac guys. Part of what always gets me is unknown code that goes into Windows. I did a Google the other day to see if I could get a feel for the 'roots' of the upcoming Vista.
Who knows what Vista is really based on -- a modification of NT that was in part based on DOS and VMS? From my limited experience, I am not sure there is enough shelf space to hold the manuals to run VMS successfully. Of course, why worry; Boot Camp and other things will change before Vista gets here.
The bottom line is that I will use all the Windows security fixes.
Mac Mini (Intel Core Duo) Mac OS X (10.4.5)

  • Just bought my wife the new iMac (20' 2.4GHz). Connected her old G4 Mini in firewire mode. Transferred her applications and files. Everything is working but the computer is very slow. Much slower than my version 2 macbook. It surfs so slow and Safari has locked up several times. This is on her regular websites not something new. All her apps on the mini were the PowerPC variety and not universal binaries. Could this be an issue? I had Firefox that was optimized for the G4 processor on the mini. It worked on the iMac but was slow. I just installed the latest universal binary Firefox and it is faster but the hard drive is thrashing constantly. Now it only has 1 GB of RAM (I will upgrade) but still, I am only running 1 app.. Was importing from a G4 a bad idea?
    Karl

    I ACTUALLY think so!
I have the same iMac you have and it's SUPER fast! and I also have just 1GB Ram.. but I'll tell you what I did..
First, I went online and got *Universal drivers* for my *Scanner, Wacom pen tablet* etc.. then I got the Universal versions of *CockTail, SuperDuper, HandBreak, Stuffit, Adium, Firefox*.. time consuming I know but if they were AVAILABLE for Intel.. it didn't seem to be a good idea to SAVE time.. just an afternoon that maybe would have cost me a couple days trying to fix future compatibility issues..
After doing that, I installed ONLY three *PPC Apps*, the ones I really need: *Photoshop CS, Flash and Dreamweaver 8*.. actually my website is all in Flash, I only use Dreamweaver as a FTP program to upload my files..
Both Flash and Photoshop will run under ROSETTA.. even taking lots of RAM, they still run faster than in my old iMac G5 with 2GB Ram.. *duo to the Intel processor*..
At least I know that ALL DRIVERS are the original Intel.. the iMac is super fast. I just moved from ATT&T (disgusting 300 KBPS) to ComCast reaching *5 MBPS* on both the *G4 mini* and the *2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac*..
Such a great experience, the large clear screen.. a fast machine and a great connection..
If I were you I'd spend a Sunday *re-installing Leopard* and looking for the *Intel version of some Apps*.. you don't have to sit in front of the computer all day.. you can load the installation DVD and open a beer and come back after a while and download Leopard updates (and open another beer..) cook and listen to a good music.. do little by little one day!
If I have a major problem I always re-install the OS.. I can't work on a sluggish machine! Better a day doing it than suffering for a LONNNNNNNNNG time!
    Cheers!
    : )

  • I have a Presario SR5450F. Recently, it is very slow to boot up. It hangs up on the Compaq screen (Setup, Boot Menu, System Recovery, Diagnostics). It hangs up on that screen for at least 10 minutes, which is unacceptable. It just started doing this. Can someone please help me? Thanks.

    You're welcome goldcanyon1
Glad I could help. Thanks for sharing your problem and what device was causing it for you. Sometimes having too many USB devices can cause problems. Your camera might work if only the mouse and keyboard are connected. It is worth a try if you need to get photos from it. I have seen even on my custom built PC occasional 'odd' issues that can arise from having a variety of different USB devices connected.
Don't forgot to say thanks by giving 'Kudos' to those that help solve your problems.
When a solution is found please mark the post that solves your issue.

  • My imac is very slow. I ran a program and this is what I got. Sorry I do not know what it means. Can someone please help me to speed up mu imac?
